Petras Vyšniauskas, Kaunas Big Band
Klaipeda and jazz are two inseparable things. The Klaipeda Castle Jazz Festival has been organized for 27 years and has earned the title of jazz capital for the port city. Every fan of improvisational music is looking forward to this fun, open-air jazz fiesta with the aroma of the sea and the wind of freedom. Every year, the brightest foreign and Lithuanian jazz stars appear on the festival stage. The XXVII Klaipeda Castle Jazz Festival is no exception. August 6 Saxophone romantic Petras Vyšniauskas will shake the hearts of the audience in support of Kaunas Big Band. The improvisations of this musician perfectly reveal the harmony of past traditions and the avant-garde of jazz. The saxophone in his hands seems to come to life – he speaks, sings, cries and laughs. „Peter’s imagination as an inexhaustible source,“ said St. Artistic director and chief of the Christopher Chamber Orchestra conductor Donatas Katkus. „It would be difficult to disagree with him,“ says Inga Grubliauskienė, the festival’s organizer. „Peter’s improvisations are like a fresh sea breeze, the direction of which is difficult to predict, but always twists into the whirlpool of magical music,“ adds I. Grubliauskienė with a smile.
Saxophone virtuoso P. Vyšniauskas, named by critics as the symbol of Lithuanian jazz, glorifies Lithuania at prestigious jazz festivals in New York, Detroit, Berlin, Zurich, Geneva and other cities around the world. The audience always greets him with a lot of applause and does not stop admiring the vibration caused by the improvisations of the saxophone, penetrating to the depths of the soul.
Petras Vyšniauskas is the Lithuanian saxophonist who has won the most titles, honored with the Order of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Gediminas, the National Prize, the World Intellectual Property Organization Award for Creative Activity, the French Medal of Honor, etc. Undoubtedly, he is one of the most prominent and unique Lithuanian jazz musicians and composers, who has trained many jazz performers.
P. Vyšniauskas will perform on the stage of Klaipėda Castle Jazz Festival together with Kaunas Big Band, without which jazz festivals are difficult to imagine. Kaunas Big Band, founded shortly after the restoration of Lithuania’s independence, has been an integral part of the entire Lithuanian jazz culture for three decades. The classics of orchestral jazz and contemporary jazz compositions are masterfully performed by a professional orchestra, performed in prestigious concert halls and multi-thousand arenas, and on August 6 will sound on the stage of Klaipeda Castle Jazz Festival together with the magical improvisations of saxophonist P. Vyšniauskas.
